Take-Two promise ‘sequels from our biggest franchises’ – BioShock 4 and Mafia 4?

BioShock – is it finally coming back?
After better than expected financial results, Rockstar owner Take-Two claims to have the ‘strongest development pipeline in its history’.
The strange thing about some video game publishers is that the bigger they get the less games they release.
Apart from the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro The Dragon remakes, Activision doesn’t bother with anything now that isn’t Call Of Duty. And the only games Take-Two has published recently are Borderlands, NBA 2K, and the risible WWE 2K series.
The first two are such huge sellers though that it hasn’t really mattered, especially as Take-Two also own Rockstar Games. But after a bumper second quarter, where net revenue grew 74%, they’re looking to expand.
‘Looking ahead, Take-Two has the strongest development pipeline in its history, including sequels from our biggest franchises as well as exciting new IP’, reads their latest financial statement .

That’s all it says though, with no mention of specific franchises and no distinction made between the 2K label, Rockstar, or their new publishing label Private Division – which handled the recent Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey and The Outer Worlds .
Private Division is probably where most of the new IP will come from, since they’ve been signing up a lot of interesting new games such as Disintegration from the co-creator of Halo. They also have Kerbal Space Program 2 out next year, which may count as one of the big-name sequels being hinted at.
GTA 6 is, presumably, on the way at some point but there’s been no real evidence that it’s anywhere close to release and it’s probably not what 2K are getting at here, as they’re usually not so subtle when talking about Rockstar’s upcoming games.

So what else does Take-Two consider to be its ‘biggest franchises’? Borderlands is one answer but clearly Borderlands 4 isn’t happening anytime soon. Mafia 4 might be though, especially after rumours of both a sequel and a remaster of Mafia 2 .
Then there’s the continued absence of Bioshock this gen, whose developer was shut down following disappointing sales of Bioshock Infinite. Take-Two has vaguely promised a new game ever since though, especially as creator Ken Levine still works for the company.
Beyond that, Civilization 7 is inevitable at some point and we’d also like to think that XCOM might get a new sequel one day, but not even we’d describe that as one of their biggest franchises.
