Thief robs Valve by taking £33,000 of games and hardware home in a wheelie bin

Exclusive footage of Shaputis during one of his raids
A Seattle man manged to burgle Steam owners Valve multiple times by throwing their computers into a bin and selling them at GameStop.
You’d think a building that housed not only Steam owners Valve, but also Epic Games, The Pokémon Company, Unity, and Samsung would have some pretty decent security, but apparently not.
Apparently, you can just bring a wheelie bin in and fill it with whatever you want, which is exactly what 32-year-old Shawn Shaputis did last year.
To be fair, he did get caught, or we wouldn’t know about it, but he was able to do it multiple times, by wheeling a recycling bin in the building’s stairwell, filling it with loot, and then just taking it out to his car.
Never mind stolen computers, we bet Shaputis was rolling in Funko POPs (pic: KIRO-7)
Shaputis would apparently then sell whatever he’d stolen at a local GameStop and was found with several stolen items in his car that he hadn’t yet pawned off.
Security cameras caught him selling his ill-gotten gains at the store and after going back to Valve multiple times he ended up with around $40,000 (£33,000) of items before being caught.

According to Washington news station KIRO-7 , Shaputis is something of a local celebrity and after the low-tech burglary at Valve went on to steal a FedEx truck and get involved in a high-speed chase with the police.
By the time police caught up with him, literally, he had six warrants for his arrest but apparently ‘keeps getting out of jail’. By which we think they mean he avoids appearing in court, rather than wheeling himself out of jail in one of his own bins.
Although the worst thing about this story is that there’s no sign that he found out about any Valve secrets while stealing from them, so maybe they really aren’t making Half-Life 3 after all…
