Deadly Premonition 2, Xenoblade Chronicles 1, and Return Of The Obra Dinn coming to Nintendo Switch

Deadly Premonition 2 – Zach is going to be over the moon about this
One of the busiest Nintendo Directs ever has announced Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE Encore, Doom 64, and Kyle Katarn as coming to Switch.
The latest Nintendo Direct is going to go down as one of the best yet, with a whole host of unexpected reveals, including brand new games, remasters, sequels, and unexpected releases.
Perhaps the most unexpected of all is Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing In Disguise, a sequel to the cult favourite mix of survival horror and surrealist comedy.
There’d been no hint the sequel even existed until now but not only is original creator SWERY working on it but a new version of the original game , called Deadly Premonition Origins, is being released on the Nintendo eShop today. The sequel will be out sometime next year.

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition
Also unexpected was Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, a remaster of the 2011 Wii role-playing game that Nintendo chose to end the Nintendo Direct with. That seemed a slightly odd choice though, considering some of the other revelations, and there were no real details beyond a vague 2020 release date. It’s not the game’s first remaster though as it also appeared on the 3DS in 2015 .
Creator Lucas Pope had hinted that it might be a possibility, but the news that the superb detective game Return Of The Obra Dinn is coming to Switch is extremely welcome – although the only given release date is sometime this autumn.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE Encore
Equally welcome is Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE Encore , an updated version of the understandably ignored – because it was a Wii U exclusive – crossover between Shin Megami Tensei (the parent franchise to Persona) and Fire Emblem.
It’s a lot more Persona than it is Fire Emblem but the new version will include a new song, and new story elements – including Fire Emblem favourite Tiki. Encore will be released on 17 January next year.
We haven’t even mentioned the obvious stuff yet, like Luigi’s Mansion 3, Pokémon Sword/Shield, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons – all of which looked great. Or the multiple Super Smash Bros. Ultimate revelations that you can read about here  and which included the revelation of the fourth DLC character and the fact that there’ll be more than five now.

Doom 64
The most bizarrely random annoucement of the night though was probably Star Wars: Jedi Knight II – Jedi Outcast, a remaster of the 2002 PC game. There was no explanation for why it was suddenly appearing on Switch, but it was ported to the GameCube and Xbox as well, so it’s not actually the first console version. It’ll be out on 24 September this year.
The other two big announcements had been leaked before, but Bethesda put in an appearance to say that Doom 64 is coming to the Switch on 22 November and Nintendo revealed that 20 SNES games will be added to the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service from this Friday – plus those rumoured SNES controllers are real and cost £26.99.

Divinity: Original Sin II Definitive Edition
We’re still not done, as Divinity: Original Sin II – one of the best Western style role-players ever made and a rare recipient of one of our 10/10 scores – is being released on Switch today. It looks just the same as the other console versions and can even share cloud saves with the Steam version.
Then there was new IP Rogue Company from Paladins creator Hi-Rez Studios, which will be out sometime next year, although it wasn’t clear if that was a Switch exclusive or not.
On top of that there’s a new free-to-start game called Super Kirby Clash, that’s available to download now; the revelation that Game Freak’s newly renamed Little Town Hero will have music by Undertale creator Toby Fox; and a new demo for the imminent Demon X Machina.

Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing In Disguise
And then finally the already leaked Assassin’s Creed: The Rebel Collection was confirmed, and there was a few moments spent on Tetris 99 Ver.2.0, which will be out today as well with a new Invictus mode, daily missions, and new customisation options.
None of the stuff that’s out ‘today’ is live as we write this though, so it could well be a few hours before Nintendo UK puts any of it live.
Phew. And we think that’s more or less everything, although you can double-check us by watching the whole Direct below.
