Mortal Kombat 11 gameplay trailers feature ultra gore and Ronda Rousey

Mortal Kombat 11 – that is a lot of trailers
NetherRealm has given the first detailed look at the new Mortal Kombat and it’s got the most over-the-top violence the series has ever seen.
Murder victim found with hands hacked off in 1987 is finally identified
Although it was first announced at The Game Awards last month that was only a quick pre-rendered teaser and it’s only now that we’re seeing any actual gameplay.
As usual Mortal Kombat 11 is a one-on-one fighter, with returning characters including Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Baraka, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Skarlet, and Sonya Blade.

The latter has the face and voice of ex-UFC, and current WWE, star Ronda Rousey, which is slightly odd as it doesn’t seem any of the other characters are based on real people.
There’s also two new characters called Geras and Kronica, both of which can be seen in the trailer. Kronica is the first female boss character in the series and Geras, who has sand powers, is her servant.

The most important takeaway from the footage is just how incredibly violent the game is. That’s always been Mortal Kombat’s shtick, of course, and the game’s cheesy tone means it’s impossible to take entirely seriously, but even so – this is pushing the envelope of nastiness.
Between Baraka pulling people’s faces off to Skarlet draining all the blood out of someone and then turning it into knives to stab them with, this is not the sort of game you want to be playing in front of your nan.

A new version of the X-ray effect, that shows the internal damage that moves cause, also seems to be present, which makes things both gorier and even less realistic (considering the fighters just get up again to carry on the fight.
Also of note is a very detail customisation tool that can change everything from the outfits to characters’ intros and moves, with NetherRealm promising this will be the most customisable version of the game ever.

Series bad guy Shao Kahn is also featured and as was the case with the last game you can unlock him for free if you pre-order now – which will also reward you with access to the beta, which starts on March 28.
The game itself is due out on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on April 23.
