An Eddy bot in Tekken 8 has amazed fans by reaching level 12 in ranked play by applying the age old technique of button-mashing.

Fans had been waiting nine years for Tekken 8, when it finally came out in January, and thankfully it didn’t disappoint, with many accepting it as the best entry in the modern era .

Although according to series producer Katsuhiro Harada, young fans are ‘rarely eager to engage in one-on-one showdowns’ anymore. Luckily for them though, they can get bots to do it for them.

A Twitch streamer is now making ranked mode even more difficult for some, having made an Eddy Gordo bot that’s learnt to play just like your little brother: by spamming that one single move over and over again.

The Eddy bot is scripted by streamer Jimmashima to press the kick button over and over again, with its mission to see how high it can climb in ranked.

Button-mashing has been the traditional strategy of novice fighting game players since the inception of the genre, but it doesn’t usually get you anywhere against someone that knows what they’re doing.

The Eddy bot doesn’t even try to block and goes on relentless attacks, often KO-ing its opponent without losing a single round.

The bot has reached level 12 – Vanquisher – about halfway up the rank table, and fans aren’t quite sure what to think.

‘The fact that it’s gotten to Vanquisher is absurd,’ said Dangle76 on Reddit .

‘Someone just got demolished by it and rage quit. People just mash buttons and Eddy’s 3 [kick button] mashing is just better,’ user 2347564 said .

Despite Jimmashima’s stream not having any commentary, and is just put live to see how far their bot can go, their channel is attracting an impressive 1,200 viewers on Twitch.

Though it’s not exactly what Bandai Namco intended, the Eddy bot is a good example of how Tekken 8 rewards aggression, with its new feature that lets you recover health with a counterattack.

That being said, good players should be able to brush the bot aside, as it’s not exactly difficult to predict its next move.
