What does GTA 6 mean for GTA Online? (Picture: Rockstar Games)

The Friday letters page asks which is the best non-Mario kart game, as one reader hopes that Sony sees the PS5 Tiny console.

Unanswered questions Like everyone else, I’m looking forward to seeing the GTA 6 trailer ASAP but I bet it’s not going to answer the main question I have about the game: how is GTA Online 2 going to work? The single-player in GTA is basically like Call Of Duty now: it’s what most people talk about at first but it won’t take long until the multiplayer takes over as the only thing that really matters.

It’s why there hasn’t been a new GTA in so long and why I wouldn’t be surprised if GTA 6 doesn’t end up being till 2025, because Rockstar just don’t need it – they’re already making plenty of money from GTA Online. So does that mean they’re never going to turn it off? Will there be a GTA Online 2 that’s separate or will GTA Online be the only mode and it’ll just get bigger?

I have trouble imagining it’ll be that last choice because GTA 6 is almost certainly going to be next gen only and that means big compromises to bring its map, or even a version of it, to GTA Online on last gen consoles. I think it’s got to be a new game. Maybe it’ll have the old map plus new stuff, but I think GTA Online 2 will absolutely be a thing and that it’ll be its own game/mode.

I also think it’ll be a lot longer till we find out for sure. Gooch

Happy times I think that the Elden Ring reveal has got to be at The Game Awards. It’s the right time, they’ve worked with Geoff Keighley before, and a launch next spring sounds about right. I can’t wait but I do have to admit I hope it’s not a prequel.

To me the idea of a prequel suggests a separate map and a story that, frankly, I’m not going to understand without spending hours on the wiki. I would much prefer it adds to the current map and takes place after the end. There’s a ton of empty space where new land could go and the game ending was not only ambiguous but seemed to go out of its way not to explain what was going on with the two gods at the end.

I’d also like to see what happens to the world now that the evil is defeated (or is it?). I have a hard time imagining what happens in a Soulslike after you win, and I’d like to see that for once; along with some happy characters! Focus

Could do better That PS5 Tiny is pretty amazing. You almost couldn’t tell it wasn’t a professional Sony product. I don’t know if it’s going to explode a couple of days later due to overheating, or something, but the guy that made it seems pretty confident and you’ve got to say he seems to know what he’s talking about.

Maybe that small isn’t entirely practical but it’s a hell of a lot better than the actual PlayStation 5 design, which somehow seems to get uglier and more impractical every time I look at it (I bought one in the Black Friday sales).

I always thought the giant fans were an overreaction to the PlayStation 4 making too much noise. It did but there surely must’ve been another way to fix that. It’s not as if any of the Xbox consoles have a problem in that area and they’re pretty much just as powerful. We’re stuck with the PS5 Slim for now but I’m sure Sony could do better. Manders

Missing the memo So Amazon are making a Fallout a TV series, eh? Two questions from me:

1) How did I miss this news? (It’s only through a random news article pop-up I heard about it). 2) Why?

I mean, I suppose The Last Of Us has shown you can turn a game into a TV series, and even expand on it.

But to me the joy of any of those Bethesda games is never the story (for obvious reasons) but simply exploring a well created world in my own way, creating a character I want (although it always end up a stealthy kill from the shadows type) and coming across those random characters and side missions. This can’t be recreated in TV.

Maybe I’m wrong, maybe it’ll be great, but I wonder if it’s missed the point.

Anyway, now that Bethesda have finished Starfield can we have a new Elder Scrolls, please? The Dude Abides

GC: It was announced back in 2020 and there’s been a steady stream of leaked, and now official, images ever since. The Elder Scrolls 6 teaser trailer was in 2018 – you knew that, right?

Unlikely future Xbox could make so much money if they did pull out of the console market. You think they could say to Sony and Nintendo, you let us put Game Pass on your consoles we would pull out of console market. Sony would probably agree, as long as something was signed on a 10 year contract, and I think Nintendo would as well.

You think Xbox would have no problems getting Game Pass on everything. Xbox is happy because Game Pass would rocket. Sony and Nintendo would be buzzing because it’s all theirs and Sony wouldn’t have a problem with Game Pass and Call Of Duty would be out day one on Game Pass for free. I doubt it will ever happen but you never know. David

Front runners As a new member of the Steam Deck owners club: the OLED screen is beautiful! It’s been great buying up some Steam sales and getting a library together.

One game I snapped up for less than the price of half a pint of beer, that I am revisiting more than any other, is Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed – coming from Sumo Digital it really feels like OutRun 2: Kart Racer Edition. The controls are sublime and the tracks are varied and interesting with the transforming karts really adding to the gameplay. The more recent Sonic kart game was a huge step down in my opinion.

It did get me thinking about kart racers aside from Mario Kart. I would put Racing Transformed at the top of the ‘other’ pile. Never got on with Crash Bandicoot’s karting game, the boost mechanic didn’t click for me but that’s held in high regard.

I wonder what GC and your readers consider premium non-Mario Karting experiences? There is certainly a lot to choose from and a lot of shovelware to avoid. BristolPete

GC: It’s a close race but we’d probably go for the remake of Crash Team Racing. Transformed is definitely the second best though.

Commodore Chronicles For anyone interested who missed the Kickstarter for The Gaming Chronicles – Episode 1 – The Amiga 500 documentary, they are doing a Kickstarter for late backers and it is live on Kickstarter now . It is called The Commodore Amiga 500 Story: The Gaming Chronicles Ep 1.

There is also extra content available for those who backed the first Kickstarter too, if they back the new one. The Kickstarter closes on Thursday 14th December 2023. Andrew J.

GC: It’s already nearly doubled its goal, as we look at it now.

Xbox Game Pass on PS5 and Switch is ‘where we’re going in this business’ says Microsoft PS5 Tiny revealed as fan-made console that’s much smaller than PS5 Slim

Review bombs away Replying to Coman and his passionate defence of Modern Warfare 3. To be immediately open, I don’t play any of the Call Of Duty games. Not my cup of tea. But to say ordinary players should not be allowed near a review is most definitely a step too far in my opinion. If people spend the best part of £70 on a game, they should be entitled to voice their opinion on it.

Now, I have seen the reviews for Modern Warfare 3 and, yes, a lot of them might be spammy and raising the same points but they are important. It sends a message to the developer that what they have done was very cheeky and not likely to be tolerated again. Unless the requisite number of players buy the game of course.

This has always been my problem with games that release on a yearly basis, such as FIFA (EA Sports FC) and even the F1 games of recent years. There is little to no innovation. This is why they rarely cross the three star mark on the Xbox Marketplace in my opinion. I will always voice my opinion on a game through a review.

Even if others are making the same point. It is important to bring awareness to other gamers before they make their purchase and potentially the same mistake. Removing reviews entirely would play completely into the hands of developers. Kinghenerzzz
