Police in Brazil suspect a young influencer couple might be a part of a scam promoting rigged online gambling games.

The two influencers who the police questioned recently are identified as Pedro Vitor and Aline Cavanellas in reports.

The online betting game mainly promoted by the couple is “Jogo do Tigrinho” or “Tiger Game”.

On their Instagrams, the two would show off with posts flaunting their wealth.

The couple would also upload videos highlighting rewards that they had falsely claimed to have won from online gambling.

The combined Instagram following of both Vitor and Cavanellas is 3.6 million.

Allegedly, they would incentivize their fans to get onto these online gambling games and place bets.

It is believed the games had been pre-programmed so that players would be unable to win; that way, whoever owned them would be the only one actually getting money.

Following the Money

During their investigation, police have discovered strange monetary transfers of almost $3.95 million (BRL 21 million).

It was also uncovered that the couple owned 15 properties, among them mansions and luxury homes.

A raid by law enforcement was able to secure several phones and documents, and several cars were also seized.

Police have shared that the larger figures in this supposed scam are based internationally, not locally.

The investigation is still in progress.

Claiming Innocence

The couple’s defence lawyers insist their clients have no part in the management of the betting platforms, nor are they the masterminds behind any of the other supposed crimes.

Many have been lured by the “tigrinho game,” which has promised a fast way to win some cash.

In the game, the player has to pick the “little tiger” they think will take the winning position.

The chances of anyone actually winning are exceptionally low, with many players losing their money.

Many games, like the “tigrinho game,” are not regulated by law, which usually means that there’s a higher chance they could be rigged.

The numerous consequent losses have led to several players developing depression and problems with anxiety.

Brazil is still working on a solution to regulate as well as legalize gambling.
