Resorts World Las Vegas, one of Sin City’s top properties, announced major leadership changes. In addition to the transition of Jim Murren to the role of chairman emeritus, the business named ex-Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval as chair.
The Property Named Nevada’s Former Governor as Chair
Resorts World Las Vegas confirmed that Jim Murren will end his tenure as chair, becoming chair emeritus, while Sandoval will assume the former position. This comes roughly a year after Murren became chair of the new board.
Murren is a former MGM Resorts CEO and board chair who has played a significant role in MGM’s growth. He was also just named as Resorts World’s interim CEO of the United Arab Emirates’ General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority in the wake of Kevin Mullally’s exit.
In the meantime, Sandoval, who is joining as chair, will assume responsibility for Resorts World Las Vegas’ board of directors. Sandoval is not an entirely new addition to the property’s team, having served as its board member since February.
Upon welcoming Sandoval in February, Resorts World praised his visionary leadership expertise that will carry the property onto the next level.
Sandoval served as Nevada’s 29th governor (2011-2019) and was notably the first Hispanic elected as head of the Silver State. He also served as the 30th Attorney General of Nevada (2003-2005).
Sandoval is no stranger to the gaming industry and has spent 3 years as a member of the Nevada Gaming Commission (1999-2001). He is currently serving as the 17th President of the University of Nevada, Reno.
A Case Against Resorts World Was Just Revived
In the meantime, an appeals court recently sent a high-profile lawsuit against Resorts World Las Vegas back to the US District Court for further review. The case is related to Robert “R.J.” Cipriani, a high roller who alleges that the property had allowed another player, Robert Alexander, to harass him repeatedly while on the casino floor.
As of the time of this writing, the timing of the case’s rehearing has not yet been set.
In September, Resorts World Las Vegas enhanced its team with two additions, naming Lou Dorn as chief legal officer and corporate secretary and Elizabeth Tranchina as general counsel.
Both appointees were hailed as legal experts who will help the property navigate legal challenges.
