Far Cry 7 screenshots leak shows new setting and extraction multiplayer mode

In lieu of any official Far Cry 7 info from Ubisoft, fans are having to make do with supposedly leaked screenshots.

It’s been four years since Far Cry 6 and, unusually for a series with so many sequels, there’s been no official word on a new entry, which seems to align with suggestions that the last game didn’t do as well as Ubisoft hoped.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot did briefly comment on the series a couple of months ago, but just to say that the company will make more of an effort to push Far Cry’s multiplayer elements.

There have been rumours of a Far Cry multiplayer spin-off for years and now someone claims to have obtained screenshots of it, showing off parts of its map and setting.

These alleged screenshots have been shared by Rogue I TX on X, who used to be a dataminer for XDefiant, Ubisoft’s short lived free-to-play shooter that shut down in June.

Exactly where they got the images from is unclear, but they say that the game is set in Alaska, in an area called Paradise Park that features lush forestation and jungle temples… which is entirely fictional.

However, this does line up with older reports by Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, who previously said that Ubisoft is working on a Far Cry extraction shooter set in the Alaskan wilderness.

Henderson claimed that the extraction shooter and Far Cry 7 were once one and the same, but plans later changed to make them separate projects, with Far Cry 7 poised to be a traditional single-player game.

However, Rogue I TX is saying that the extraction shooter is its own mode within Far Cry 7, having also shared images of one of the game’s main protagonists and a family photo.

Far Cry 7’s rumoured plot is said to be about rescuing your family from a gang of kidnappers, but the way the photo is coloured and framed suggests these are actually the villains of the story.

Again, this is all hearsay but, for what it’s worth, the X posts containing some of the map screenshots have since been deleted and can now only be viewed via Reddit.

Ubisoft may still be undecided on whether the multiplayer aspect is part of Far Cry 7 or a separate game but Guillemot’s comments do point to the next Far Cry having more in-depth multiplayer options.

If no announcement takes place at The Game Awards this December, Ubisoft may finally have something to show at its next Ubisoft Forward summer showcase, in 2026. Especially since it skipped having one this year.
